التزيين: خمس نصائح من شأنها أن تجعل عيد الميلاد أكثر بيئية من أي وقت مضى

The eco-friendly trend is taking over. The foods we eat, the clothing we wear, the products we use, no matter what we do, it seems like we are always keeping on eye on its impact on the environment.

And with good reason! With the earth providing us with so many terrific resources, we must do what we can to keep it healthy.

With the environmental trend getting so big, it makes perfect sense that we should incorporate it into our Christmas decorating efforts. Here are some things you could be doing to give the earth the best gift possible this holiday season.

Recycled Ornaments

Ornaments are lovely but they are often made of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials that can get into our soil and waterways and harm plant and animal life. Instead of buying new ornaments this year, try making your own.

Ribbons and recycled paper make great starting points for an ornament. You can even cut up old greeting cards you’re not using any more. Cardboard can be fashioned into a Christmas village. You can even take an old bottle and transform it into a Christmas tree ornament.

Use Natural Elements

You can also turn to nature itself when you are looking to decorate your home. Fallen tree branches can be dipped in glitter and hung around the house. You can make evergreen boughs into a terrific wreath. Add dried fruits and berries and you’ve got eco-friendly ornaments that are completely free.

Consider Renting a Tree

Natural trees are more sustainable options than artificial, but not if they end up in the garbage after the season is over. The best choice may be to rent a tree.

You can rent a tree for an affordable price. Use it through the season and when you’re done, the rental company will pick it up and replant it. Now that sounds like a win win to me!

Wrap with Recyclable Paper

Gift wrap is lovely, but after it’s used, it ends up in the garbage making waste. Instead of using paper you know will be thrown out, try using a recyclable wrap instead.

To determine is the wrap is recyclable, you will want to scrunch it in your hands. If it stays scrunched, this means it can be recycled.

Alternately, you can use fabric to wrap your gift or do your own recycling by using a brown paper bag or newspaper.

Don’t be Wasteful of Food

At Christmastime, we tend to buy tons of food and a lot of it ends up going to waste. Buying less is one option but it may leave you short.

A better choice is to use a food app. A food app will inform you which neighbors are in need so you can send over your leftovers to make their seasons bright.

These tips will help you make your Christmas a lot greener. Mother Nature will smile, and you are likely to get on the good list with Santa as well. What do you do to make your holidays eco-friendly?
